I like Pavement, but really I was thinking about this goofy hymn.
Ina Ogdon, the woman who wrote it, was forced to miss a speaking engagement at the Chautauqua Circuit circa 1912. I think she had sour grapes about missing the adulation of the big audiences at the event and wrote this song to console, chastise, and exhort herself. But it’s not that hard to take it as a do-it-yourself anthem. That’s how I take it anyway.
